We have absolutely fallen in love with our chickens here at Eden Gardens Farm. They are funny little creatures. All have their own little personalities and boy do they love bugs. We even started a process of harvesting black soldier fly larvae this week so we can feed our chickens with a high protein snack for a low low price of FREE.
Jonathan also built new mobile chicken coop for our adolescent flock so they have access to pasture. This chicken enclosure is easily moved all over the farm to provide chickens access to fresh pasture. While they dig up and eat weeds they are also fertilizing and preparing the soil for future planting. When they begin to lay eggs in about 6-8 weeks we will all be winning. Farm fresh eggs are a major perk at the farm!
Since we came to the farm back in December we have expanded our flock from 12 chickens to almost 40! Chicken math is a REAL thing, y’all.
Some of our chicken mommas hatched out their own eggs this spring and we also incubated some. It was so fun watching that entire process. Waking up to little peeps in the morning is unforgettable.
We love being a part of the GROWTH at Eden Gardens. Chickens provide weed control, fertilizer, protein, and entertainment! They are an integral part of our eco system. We love teaching our friends, neighbors and fellow missionaries about integrating these birds into their own backyards and farms.so that users can easily invite others and receive updates about events.
